First of all apply a diluted solution to the wall which stops the walls from absorbing paste from the wall paper. Then you have to measure the wall with a tape measure. You will need some ladders and if there is a friend available it would be a good idea to have some help at this stage. Allow 1/2 an inch either end for scaling down.

Unroll the paper on to your pasting table and measure the length and mark with a pencil and a straight edge such as a ruler. Then cut along the line with the scissors and then repeat the process by turning the paper over and measuring it against a new length of paper. Keep repeating this until you have plenty of strips of paper to cover a wall. If you are papering an old house with uneven walls it is a good idea to apply the first strip of paper to the wall and measure from there to take into account any bumps.

Pasting the wallpaper is fairly straightforward. The important thing to remember is to paste out from the middle and then check the paper is evenly covered especially along the edges.
